Electric Car Drivers in California Allowed in Carpool Lane – Without Passengers

Green Driving in the HOV Lanes If you were caught driving alone in the carpool lane before, you could have faced a hefty fine of over $340. However, with the extension of the HOV lane sticker program, more solo drivers could start taking advantage of the faster, once excluding lane. The bill allows those driving fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles to access the high-occupancy vehicle lanes, or carpool lanes, even when they’re traveling alone.
